10 Great Board Games for 3 Year Olds

Age Appropriate Board Games List

Let’s have some family fun! This list features fun board games for 3 year olds the whole family can enjoy! Most of these games don’t require knowing numbers and letters and that’s why they are great for this age group (some do – those are great for learning the numbers).

All of these games are made to be easily played by the young ones, they don’t last too long, are easy to understand, are either cooperative or based in a way everyone has equal chances of winning.

Kids learn all kind of useful skills through board games so a few of these are a must in every household.

Top 10 Board Games for 3 Year Old Kids

Something super fun and that can be used over and over again. Something that makes them use their genius brains. Something colorful and fun!

Candy Land

This one is often referred as “child’s first game” and chances are you played this game (well a version of it) as a kid too.

You don’t need to know how to read or tell numbers to play this game and as it’s based on luck kids will always be equal to adults when playing.

Rules are pretty simple – players draw colored cards and move their figures to the squares with the color that was drawn until one reaches the castle. Fun, fun, fun!

Hi Ho Cherry-O

It’s all about picking the fruits! This is a great game to use as introduction to board games as kids will have to take turns and count to 10.

The goal is to be the first to pick 10 fruits from the trees (filling their bucket with them) by spinning the wheel that shows them how much they can pick from the tree – but the fun doesn’t stop there when they spin the wheel they can also land on the dog, the bird or the spilled bucket!

Count Your Chickens

Another great board game for 3 year olds!

This is a cooperative game which means once the goal of the game is achieved all players are winners. I really like this all are winners concept.

The goal of the game is to help the mother hen collect all her chicks and bring them back to the chicken coop.

Chutes and Ladders (aka Snakes and Ladders)

A classic board game! This is one of the most popular games and a great one to get the kids counting to 100!

There are 100 squares on the board and the first player to reach the 100th square wins! Land on good deeds (ladders) and climb up to gain advantage – land on the chutes and you will slide down the board and loose a few spaces.

A game where players test their luck and have lots of fun!

Go Fish!

An old classic game with fresh and eye catching graphics.

This game will help with learning the numbers, counting, pairs and sets.

Snail’s Pace Race

A great game for the young ones! Kids choose their champion snail (the color that will win) and the race begins! There are two dice and instead of numbers they have colors on them – so it the dice lands on yellow you move the yellow snail one space forward,

Fun and fast paced game – even though the snails are slow.

Spot it Alphabet

I love spot it! It’s one of those games that looks so easy but when you play it you see things a bit differently!

This one is made for the younger ones so it is a lot easier than regular Spot it! (equal the fun though for the young ones!) and it will help them learn their ABC’s!

Feed The Woozle

What I like with this game the most is that it “grows” with your child! It has 3 levels of play each appropriate for a certain age group – so the first level is for 3 to 4 year olds, second for 4 to 5 year olds and third for 5 to 6 year olds.

It’s a great game to get the kids moving as dancing, spinning, marching, hoping and walking are a part of the game!

The Sneaky, Snacky Squirell

Another great board game for 3 year olds! I mean who wouldn’t love a game that has “Sneaky” in the title?

This is a great game for developing matching, sorting, hand to eye coordination, fine motor skills, pre writing skills and even some strategic thinking that will come in handy with other board games in the future.

Snug as a Bug in a Rug

Last (but not least) in this list of board games for 3 year olds is the Snug as a Bug in a Rug game – a fun cooperative game where players have to work together to put all the matching bugs under the rug.

Great for developing fine motor and social skills.
