All books on this list either have a strong female protagonist, speak of famous female characters or deal with issues a young girl can face growing up.
Great Books for 3-Year -Old Girls with Strong Characters
The Princess Knight I couldn’t help myself – I just had to start this list “for girls” with a princess book (or two). But this isn’t your regular prince comes to the rescue kind of book. This book teaches an important lesson – you, the girl can to the same amazing things boys can do. Warring: This book mentions the death of mother. |
Rosie Revere, Engineer A book about a girl inventor? Yes please! I love books about girl scientists but what I love even more about this one is that it teaches that failure doesn’t mean you have to stop what you are doing, you can only fail if you quit (which kind of goes well with one of my all time favorite quotes from Samuel Becket: “Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail Better”. |
Look Up! I love it when kids get the chance to learn about famous and not so famous historical figures through books! Fun passive learning! This book tells the story of Henrietta Leavitt, a female scientist that should have a place in our schools as she unravelled the mystery and importance of stars brightness and flickering and that in a time when women scientist were not respected at all! |
Goldie Blox and the Dunk Tank This one is especially great for those that aren’t all that into reading and need some additional motivation as this book comes with an engineering toy! So kids get to read a fun story and at the same time develop their engineering skills as the build a working (mini) dunk tank. Plus there are many books in this series so if your little one will love this one there’s more! |
The Princess in Black You can be a pink princess and a heartbeat transform yourself into a black-monster-fighting princess! Black is the new pink? Or is it the other way around? |
Madeline I am sure you already know about Madeline but just in case you don’t this classic book is about a girl named Madeline, a fearless little girl who’s not even afraid to get sick! The story is set in Paris which makes it just a bit magical (and so do the unique illustrations). |
You can never have enough books!
