Great Science Toys For Preschoolers (ages 3, 4 and 5!) – Itsy Bitsy Fun

Let’s Spark Their Interest in Science!

There are so many great kits and toys to introduce your preschooler to science the fun way it was hard to pick just a few but these still are my favourites (for various reasons)!

I think it’s super important to do science activities with preschoolers as this helps them discover and understand the world around them and it also makes them more curious about their surroundings – so let the fun experiments begin!

Naturally as some of this kits do have small parts adult supervision is required with some :).

Great Science Toys and Kits for 3 Year Olds – Preschool Science

As not all kits are for all ages I decided to split the preschoolers to 3 groups (3 year olds, 4 year olds and 5 year olds) to make it easier for you to pick out just the right toy for them! So first we have our lovely 3 year olds! At this age they are already getting creative with play and are getting really curious about their (and others) body and surroundings.

Preschool Lab Set

This one is my favourite pick for 3 year olds (and they love it too) as it has the whole lab equipment (minus the lab coat) so your little ones will also be able to dramatic play while they do all kinds of cool experiments.

It includes 10 double sided activity cards with instructions for doing a few simple experiments.

Lots of fun and giggles!

Their First Microscope (actually a loupe)

I think each home should have a microscope so that kids can explore the micro world around them. This one is perfect for preschoolers as it’s easy to use and has a 8x magnification – it will teach them how to handle a real microscope (they will feel like they do) and give them a chance to explore the world around them.

Expect a lot of specimen hunting around the house if you give them this microscope as ordinary objects such as rocks, twigs and leafs become super interesting again.

Clifford the Big Red Dog Kits

This is a great series of science kits for young kids – they have Kitchen Science, Animal Science, Bubble, Rainbow…. So many fun kits to explore.

My favourite is the Kitchen kit as it has some really cool experiments such as making slime, crystal star, volcano, exploring fungus (I know sounds icky but kids will love these experiments) amongst other things.

Live Butterfly Garden

Before I say why I think this one is a great gift you should know that this kit doesn’t come with butterfly larva – it comes with a coupon you send in and then they send you the larva so if you want to get it all in one go you should also order an “extra” batch of larva to be sent to you with this kit.

That said I love this kit – it gets the kids to watch the life cycle of the butterfly first hand and learn about it.

My First Mind Blowing Science

A kit that is similar to Clifford the Red Dog Series but with an 4 year age limit.

This kit lets the little scientists (to be) explore various fields and watch some exciting chemical reactions as they make a color changing volcano, jiggly crystals or a sunset in a tube (amongst other cool things).

Nature Series: Tracking

This is one of our favourite activities – animal tracking! It’s a fun way to learn about animals and making casts of their tracks will have the little ones jump of joy!

This kit has everything to make a few animal tracks in the sand or mud and do casts of them but if you live near a forest and have the chance to find some real ones be sure to take that advantage – it will make nature walks even more fun.

Exploring The Human Body

Let the little ones learn about the basics of human biology through doing various fun experiments to test their senses and learn cool things about their anatomy.

My favourites are the optical illusions experiments and the stethoscope one.

This is a valuable kit as kids will learn a lot from playing with it.

Feed The Woozle

What I like with this game the most is that it “grows” with your child! It has 3 levels of play each appropriate for a certain age group – so the first level is for 3 to 4 year olds, second for 4 to 5 year olds and third for 5 to 6 year olds.

It’s a great game to get the kids moving as dancing, spinning, marching, hoping and walking are a part of the game!

Sprout & Grow Window

Do your kids ever wonder what’s happening under ground when they look at plants? This kit lets them observe how plants grow on and bellow ground.

The will see how deep the roots grow on how they grow – this kit also comes with a activity guide that will help them get the most out of this experience.

This guide is part of a wonderful collection of guides by various moms and educators! Check out more right here.
