Best Gifts for 3 Year Old Boys in 2017

Toys and other gifts appropriate for 3 to 4 year old boys!

Looking for some inspirations on what to put under the Christmas tree?  Let’s get a super great gift for a 3 year old boy – a ton of fun learning toys, games and toys just for fun! Be it his birthday or something to put under the Christmas tree you should find something suitable. Most of these ideas were or still are tested by my adorable 3 year old nephew (now almost 4 year old) or by his friends at preschool.

We discussed these gift ideas with other moms of boys in this age group in order to make a simple and hopefully helpful list of gifts (girls will love these too by the way).

What Gifts Does a 3 to 4 Year Old Boy Want or Need?

Something super fun and that can be used over and over again. Something that makes them use their genius brains. Something colorful and fun!

Chew Chew Train Place Setting

We’re totally loving this! Eating dinner will never be the same as this is insanely fun. Perfect if you have a picky eater that needs some distraction or a hearty eater that just deserves an upgrade on his dull old plate.

Jigsaw Puzzles

My nephew is really, really into puzzles. He got his first puzzle a few months ago (one with 24 pieces like the one on the picture) and now he is already putting together puzzles that have 100+ pieces that are recommended for older kids (with help naturally).

He never gets tired of it and his fine motor skills have increased greatly since he started putting them together.

Also great for visual and problem solving skills. Inexpensive and provides hours of fun!

Learning Resources Gears! Gears

Perfect toy to get their little curious brains into high gear while having lots and lots of fun.

Perfect toy to nurture a future generation of smart, creative thinkers and engineers.

Art Kit

3 year olds are getting pretty creative. We could do dozens of drawings with my nephew each day and while with some pictures you have to have a lot of imagination to see (or in the end not see) what they are some are getting pretty clear.

They also like to explore new ways of being artistic – finger painting, crayons, brushes…

I saw this fun spinning art machine in the store the other day and thought it was pretty cool (the kind sales lady said her kid looooves it). Already have it gift wrapped :).

With Star Wars Movies Hitting the Theatres this Toy is Gold!

It’s time for a new generation of Star Wars fans and as I am one I have absolutely no objections! Let the force be with them!

Learning & Construction Toys for 3-4 Year Old Boys

Building Sets

As creativity is the most important!

Building blocks are always a great gift. As are the building tiles such as Magna tiles.

These allow hours and hours of open ended play and are just gorgeous (do use them on the light table if you have one).

Marble Run

This one is an absolute must have. I haven’t yet met a boy (or a girl) who wouldn’t love these!

They will love putting it together (with your help) and will have hours of fun watching the marbles go down the construction over and over again.

Introduction to Electronics

Most of us grew up (well at least preschool age) without fancy electronics but times change.

While I strongly believe kids should spend a lot of time off screen (as much as possible) I also think controlled use of tablets designed for kids if beneficial.

Tablets for kids are designed with learning in mind so all of the games and applications available have lots of educational value.

You can never have enough books!

Amazing Airplanes

I really think boys will like this book.

A book always makes a great gift and even though your 3 year old doesn’t read yet reading a book with them is the best way to encourage reading in the future.

You can combine this book with a toy plane and make it an even better gift!

A House of Their Own

A cardboard house is a great gift – it’s inexpensive, can be set up in minutes and looks pretty awesome.

We got this house for my nephew’s third birthday and he loves it still. He can play in the house for hours (he brings in all his toys for a visit).

He wasn’t interested in coloring it though at first as he wasn’t skilled enough (his father did seem to enjoy the coloring though 😉 but the house is getting more and more color each time we visit.

Playsets

Playsets are great for imaginative play and this Octonauts Octopod Playset is one of my favourites.
